{"id":6975,"date":"2010-05-12T11:41:26","date_gmt":"2010-05-12T18:41:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wapreview.com\/?p=6975"},"modified":"2010-05-12T12:13:22","modified_gmt":"2010-05-12T19:13:22","slug":"taptu-mobile-web-growing-twice-as-fast-as-expected-outstrips-iphone-appstore","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/6975\/","title":{"rendered":"Taptu: Mobile Web Growing Twice as Fast as Expected, Outstrips iPhone Appstore."},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/wapreview.com\/images\/TouchWebGrowth.jpg\" alt=\"Touch Web Growth\" width=\"490\" height=\"252\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em><small>Image: Taptu<\/small><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Mobile search company <a title=\"mobile site\" href=\"http:\/\/www.taptu.com\/\">Taptu<\/a> released the fourth in a series of &#8220;<em>State of the Touch Friendly Web<\/em>&#8221; reports today.\u00a0 The reports track mobile web trends and showcase over 100 new Mobile Touch Web sites each month.<\/p>\n<p>In the <a href=\"http:\/\/taptu.com\/metrics\/TaptuMobileTouchWebReportApr2010.pdf\">latest report (PDF)<\/a> Taptu compares the size and growth rate of its Mobile Touch Web index with that of the iPhone and Android appstores.\u00a0\u00a0 By Taptu&#8217;s count there are currently:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li> <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">440,100 Mobile Touch Web Sites<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">185,000 apps in the iPhone App Store<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">35,947 apps in the Android Market<br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In terms of growth, based on numbers from the last four months:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mobile Touch Web<\/strong> sites are growing at an annual rate of<strong> 232%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>iPhone <\/strong>apps are growing at an annual rate of <strong>144%<\/strong><\/li>\n<li><strong>Android <\/strong>apps are growing at an annual rate of <strong>403%<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not only is the Touch Web growing faster than iPhone apps but it is also growing twice as fast as Taptu projected in January. Taptu now expects the number of\u00a0 Mobile Touch Web sites to reach <span style=\"font-weight: bold;\">1.1 million<\/span> (up from their previous prediction of\u00a0 0.5 million) by the end of 2010.<\/p>\n<p>Incidentally, the majority of the sites Taptu calls &#8221; Touch Friendly&#8221;\u00a0 work just as well with the browsers on\u00a0 non-touch phones.
